About Us

Kathryn Toner Designs is a proudly Canadian company specializing in custom made handcrafted jewelry and keepsakes.  We pride ourselves on being able to offer our customers unique designs made with quality materials at affordable prices and great customer service!  We also strongly believe in giving back and donate part of our proceeds on select items to various charities and have participated in and hosted numerous fundraisers over the last decade.  A few of the organizations we have been involved with are Sicks Kids Hospital in Toronto, Autism Speaks Canada and the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Network.

Kathryn's story:

I started designing jewelry back in 2007 as a part time income while going to school for teaching. Upon graduating, full time teaching jobs were very scarce so I began to dedicate more time and energy into my little business. It quickly became something I loved and was very passionate about and ultimately became my full time gig.

My greatest mentor is my own mom, who also designs jewelry. She has taught me a lot. I guess you can say I came from a family of artists, with both parents very creative and hobbies which included woodworking and carving, leather work, knife making, stained glass and jewelry, just to name a few. I like to think a little of their creativity has been passed on to me :)

The first few years I was doing many shows. Art shows, craft shows, festivals and fundraisers. I then met my husband and he joined me and we worked together in the business until the birth of our second child. Having 2 young kids at home slowed us down a little and he needed to get a full time job, as we now had a family to support and as many artists know, this can be a very unpredictable source of income. Now that the kids are a little older, I am able to devote more time and energy into the business again except our direction has shifted a little. We have gone from doing 40+ shows a year, with lots trave, to focusing more on online sales and a handful of select shows. My husband told me to "get with the times" and I only opened a Facebook and Instagram page last year and my Etsy shop near the end of 2016. So far I am loving it, as I get to be home for the kids and work around their schedule. (lots of late nights after they go to bed!)  Finally in July of 2018 we have decided to start our own webpage where we could have more creative freedom to sell our designs online worldwide!

My husband is still very much involved. He will help at shows, creating new products and makes a lot of the jewelry as well. He does most of the wire wrapping and leather work. Our Friday nights usually consist of going down to our studio and "playing around", trying new designs and concepts. The dream is to one day move out of the city and have our own little studio/storefront.

Thank you for stopping by my shop and taking an interest :)
